Warm up to Laura Veirs (if you hadn’t already), an ex-punk rocker that’s latest effort, “July Flame” is a full collection of carefully crafted folk. Try with all your might to listen to all its lovely components – not just that voice. Hushed details of beauty lie within the quiet guitar pickings, horn arrangements and vocal congruences (with the help of My Morning Jacket’s Jim James) from beginning to end. Her eloquent approach to song-writing is something to appreciate too.
